Sugar stimulates the brain similarly to drugs, yet it can be more addictive than the most addictive drugs, heroin and cocaine. A 2013 research revealed that eating Oreo stimulates the brain’s pleasure center more than injected cocaine in rats.

During the study, rats were given coke until they’ve become addicted to it, then they were given the choice to either keep having the cocaine or switch to sugar. 94% of rats eventually chose and were even more interested in sugar! The simple explanation is that sugar has more powerful effects on the brain (of both rats and humans) than drugs.
