Broccoli is a wonderful veggie that is praised for its rich content of vitamin C, magnesium, calcium, potassium, and fiber. Moreover, it is a great source of sulforaphane glucosinolate (SGS), which is a compound that can considerably improve your blood pressure as well as kidney function. 5. Potatoes

Potatoes are considered a fattening food by the health-conscious critics. While no one can deny that French fries soaked in oil are absolutely fattening, a couple of servings of spuds a day can reduce blood pressure, the same way as oatmeal, without promoting weight gain, according to research from the American Chemical Society.

As stated in the report, diastolic blood pressure dropped by 4.3% and the systolic pressure decreased by 3.5% in individuals who had a history of obesity and HBP. Moreover, researchers identified an element in potatoes that is similar to ACE inhibitors, which are common medications for HBP treatment. But this doesn’t mean you’re allowed to stock up on French fries and potato chips. If you want to reap the health benefits of potatoes, you should avoid overcooking or burning them, as it would destroy nutrients and produce toxic chemicals associated with cancer.

6. Kiwis

Kiwis are known for their sour, yummy taste and fuzzy follicles. Although this fruit is small-sized, it’s actually loaded with lutein, an antioxidant responsible for lowering blood pressure. According to a Norwegian study in which around 100 male smokers aged between 44 and 74 with normal/high-normal blood pressure were divided into 3 groups, the 1st group added 3 kiwis to their diet, the 2nd group added antioxidant-rich foods to their diet, and the last group ate a regular diet. After 8 weeks, the participants who consumed 3 kiwis per day had a 33% lower blood pressure.

7. Spinach

Spinach is an excellent food when it comes to helping to lower HBP. Besides being one of the healthiest foods on the planet, spinach is also a great source of vitamins A, C, and E. So it is no surprise that spinach helps prevent the health problems linked to oxidative stress. Oxidative stress occurs due to an imbalance between antioxidant defenses and free radicals. Amazingly, the antioxidants found in spinach can help re-establish this imbalance.
