According to Mark Varvares, MD, FACS, an otolaryngologist in Harvard Medical School, if there is any lump on the right or left of the center or low down on your neck, then it could indicate a thyroid mass.

The majority of thyroid masses are not harmful, but when they are extremely large, then it will affect swallowing and cause difficulty breathing. If these are your symptoms, then don’t hesitate to see your doctor ASAP.

#3 – A wide neck

You could notice that your neck has become a little wider than usual – more than 16 inches for women and more than 17 inches for men. In that case, you could be at risk for sleep apnea.

One of the symptoms is snoring during the night, so make sure to ask the person sleeping next to you if you snore when you sleep, if it is a yes, then you probably have obstructive sleep apnea.

It is not dangerous, you just need to do a sleep study for a better diagnosing, and then a simple surgery or a CPAP machine will solve the issue.

#4 – Swollen lymph beneath the angle of your jaw

According to recent studies, HPV is linked to oral cancer more than smoking, and within the last decade, it has increased by an estimated 225%!

According to Dr. Varvares, one of the first signs is finding a lump below the angle of your jaw, and it is usually painless. This tumor would usually start in the mouth, and once cancer starts spreading, it would reach the lymph nodes and become visible in the neck.

This is why you need to constantly be aware of the lymph and lumps that suddenly appear on your neck. If this one was diagnosed early, then you will be saving your life!

#5 – A lymph node bigger than a golf ball

Our lymph nodes have a measure of about 1.5 centimeters, but if you noticed that it is bigger than a golf ball, then it is time to make an appointment with your doctor to get it checked out.
