#1 – Own It

Did you know that pretending you’re not angry (especially while your physical signs are nearly cartoonish) does no good for you nor for your anger target?

Unlike what most people think, acknowledging anger whether to yourself or as calmly as you can to the person you’re in conflict with can actually validate your feelings. This, in turn, can help you feel more empowered to work on an appropriate solution as well as it will minimize the conflict within yourself.

For example, you can say, ‘I admit I’m getting upset here. I just want to resolve this without regrets, so I will try to slow down.’ Remember that once you admit how you feel and react within reason, you become instantly more powerful than your emotions.

#2 – Break It Down

Are simmering with talk about your yearly review? If you write down some of your thoughts, whether using pen and paper or a note-taking app, you’ll notice how they somehow absorb your feelings. During the process, you can find out the reasons why you’re upset and what steps you can take through whatever situation you’re in.

More importantly, turning your feelings into words can make them feel more concrete and therefore more manageable. This can eventually help them work their way out of your nerves.
