How to Overcome a Workday with No Sleep

Last Updated on January 7, 2021

It happens sometimes that you don’t get enough sleep at night for a variety of reasons. But it becomes a real struggle when you have a full day of work the next day as well as other daily obligations or commitments that you cannot put aside, leaving you with no other options than trying to power through the day regardless of how terrible your lack of sleep is. (I’ve been there several times and I can say that I had some strangely awful days that I can barely remember now.)

But since it can be inevitable at times, there are some things you can do that can help you keep on functioning normally throughout the day and make it back to bed safely.

#1 – Drink Water

Drink Water

Drinking a little to no water on such an already difficult day can make you even more tired, and this works the other way as well. You should drink lots of H2O to help your body feel more alert and awake.

What’s more, gulping plenty of water will force you to take multiple breaks to the bathroom, which is a wonderful way to keep your body active and avoid falling asleep at your desk (or waking up to a little shake from your boss)! Also, you may consider adding some lemon juice
or a sliced lemon to your water, as it will help make you feel more awake!

#2 – Get Your Blood Circulating around

Get Your Blood Circulating around

This may sound ironic, but exercise can be an excellent way to wake up. Working out is going to boost energy and adrenaline levels through your body’s blood circulation, in addition to fastening your metabolic rate. Such effects should do just the right trick to help you survive the workday.

Furthermore, regular exercise will help you sleep better if that was the cause of your lack of sleep. If you don’t have time for a full workout, you can simply go for a short walk or run up and down the stairs. It can really do wonders.
