#1 – Margarine
A popular falsehood about margarine is that it is a healthier choice and better alternative to butter. The truth is margarine contains excessive amounts of trans-fatty acids. It is said that at least each tablespoon of margarine contains about 100 calories.
In addition, those trans-fats existing in the margarine can lead to heart attacks by damaging your blood and logging the arteries, therefore restricting the flow of oxygen-rich blood to the heart.
#2 – Processed Meat
Processed meat is modified for two main reasons, either to extend its shelf life or change the taste. The latter is preserved by the following main methods, namely smoking, curing, or adding salt or some harmful preservatives like nitrates.
Processed meat includes bacon, sausages, ham, hot dogs, salami, corned beef, beef jerky, and smoked meat. According to a research carried out in this matter, processed meat is found guilty of contributing to fatal heart diseases, cancer, and premature death.
Not only that, the high salt content in the processed meat can cause a certain increase in blood pressure, while the nitrate preservatives added to the latter can clog arteries and raise blood sugar levels.
