Tomatoes are another great way to lower the risk of heart attack and stroke for people with diabetes. This red food contains two powerful antioxidants: beta-carotene and lycopene, which can lower blood pressure by acting as a blood thinner in the body.
According to a study published in the International Journal of Food Sciences and Nutrition, individuals with type 2 diabetes who consume 200 grams of raw tomatoes every day for two weeks had lower blood pressure.
