The wise thing to do is to dispose the thinnest outer layer in the trash or cut it up into pieces before you think about throwing it down in the disposal. Few seconds of work can save you many dollars and hours of work!
#7 – Fruit Pits
Some homeowners think that it’s totally okay to put fruits pits down the drain or the garbage disposal. But, the truth is that this is not okay! The fruit pits are incredibly hard and dense and can easily dent or even break your disposal blades.
Therefore, you will have no other choice but take a trip to buy a new disposal. In addition to fruit pits, avoid dumping the grape skins or avocado seeds down your drains.
#8 – POTATO PEELS
Potato peels are so much like the onion skin. They are thin enough to pass through the disposal and can even glue itself to the drain and that’s because potato peels do turn into glue when putting down the drain.
In the long term, potato peels can add up and turn into a starch that hardens and blocks your drain. This applies to garbage disposals as well!
#9 – CLEANING CHEMICAL PRODUCTS
All those cleaning chemical products such as the harsh drain busters and the industrial-grade cleaners are better avoided the maximum possible. These chemicals can cause a lot of damage to your garbage disposal as well as the drain line.
However, there is a better way to clean the blade, deodorize it, and break up any possible grease build-up on it by using ice cubes!
#10 – TRASH
We all know that trash is actually called a garbage disposal, but this doesn’t mean that you can throw anything and everything in it! There are some things or items that are better off.
