One of the most common causes of eye infections is contaminated contact lenses. If the contact lenses or their case are carrying harmful germs, then your eyes will be in contact with them as soon as you wear them. There is also a possibility of developing an infection by wearing your contact lenses for way too long!

Another way to experience eye infection is after being exposed to contaminated water, which could be water from the shower, swimming pool, or the water to wash your contact lenses.

Lastly, you can develop an eye infection if you come in contact with someone who already has an infection because in some cases it could be contagious!

Besides the obvious signs of eye infections that cause us an annoying and uncomfortable sensation, here are the most obvious signs:

• Dry or watery eyes

• Swelling and redness

• Burning

• Itching

• Sensitivity to light

• Decreased or blurred vision (emergency)

• Cloudiness in your vision (emergency)

If you experience two or more of these symptoms, then it is not a bad idea to go check your doctor in order not to delay any necessary treatment and to protect yourself from any dangerous consequences.

If you deal with a compromised immune system, then you are at a higher risk for any type of infection in your body, including eye infections. If you smoke tobacco, then according to research, you are at a higher risk of developing it than those who don’t smoke.

If you use contact lenses, then your chances of developing an eye infection are more increased, so make sure to never sleep with them and wash them regularly, including their case.

In order to protect yourself, consume more fresh vegetables and fruits on a daily basis to help your eyes stronger against many different kinds of germs.
