One of the ‘not-fun’ parts about growing older is watching your joints wearing down, including the ones in your neck. According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, this is a medical condition called osteoarthritis, and it leads to the degeneration of cartilage.

Cartilage is the slippery tissue that plays the role of protecting the end of bones in the joints, so when they are healthy, they absorb shock when you are moving. When we are older and these joints are worn down, problems will increase and affect your neck negatively.

You can manage osteoarthritis by changing your lifestyle, like adding physical therapy, using ice on your neck, and drinking medications.

You will get a whiplash when your neck gets injured forcefully, fast, and with a powerful back-and-forth movement, like if you are in a car accident (even a minor one).

However, whiplashes can occur due to physical abuse, sports accident, or another trauma that will lead your neck to experience unbearable pain.

After getting the whiplash, you will be experiencing symptoms like headaches, dizziness, stiffness, fatigue, lack of concentration, blurry vision, pain in the shoulders, arms or upper back. But they will typically set in within twenty-four hours of the incident.

You can get better by applying cold or hot packs for 15 minutes multiple times a day, resting, medications, and doing gentle stretches to exercise the neck, but make sure to do it with the help of a doctor.
