Hands get cold at low-temperature environments, which is totally normal. However, constantly cold hands are an alarming sign of lurking health problems. Cold hands are usually a sign of poor circulation although they can also indicate (along with other symptoms) Raynaud’s disease, which we previously mentioned.

If your fingers are swollen after getting off an airplane, just ignore it. Swollen fingers usually occur when it’s hot outside, before period, or after a salty meal. But if your fingers feel stiff and thick or your ring just won’t fit after many days of cutting back on salt and drinking plenty of water, the swelling could indicate hypothyroidism, which causes your metabolism to slow down.

Ask your doctor for a routine thyroid check to measure the level of thyroid-stimulating hormone. (TSH level should be between 0.3 and 3.0.)

If your nails turn yellow or green, it could be due to a fungal infection, which if long-lasting or frequent, can be an early sign of diabetes. Fungi and bacteria thrive when your immune system and circulation are impaired, which is usually the case with diabetics. You may consider getting a test for your blood sugar levels and an anti-fungal treatment.

And if your fingernails are blue, it could be a sign of several breathing and lung problems as well as heart problems. In this blue case, you should consider getting an analysis to measure blood oxygen and some tests to check your lungs and heart.
