How to Choose the Best Primary Care Doctor

Last Updated on January 7, 2021

Also, when looking for the right doctor, you might not want to fully trust the health advice you found somewhere on the internet, yet it’s wise to check out online reviews of the doctor, in addition to asking people you know in real life.

#9 – A Shabby Office is Fine

A Shabby Office is Fine

You probably don’t want the doctor’s office to look funny. But a lovely décor doesn’t necessarily mean that the office is well-run or the doctor is more competent than the one whose office has certainly seen better days.

It could simply mean that the doctor is investing their resources to patient care instead! It’s just the same way a high-tech classroom doesn’t make a better teacher (you can still teach very well using a blackboard and chalk.)

It might not give a good first impression, but a rundown office shouldn’t be a sign to run the other way and can be fine or even better if it had the best doctor.

#10 – Check the Hospital

Check the Hospita

Hopefully, you won’t have a need to go to the hospital, but if you do, it’s best if your primary care physician has privileges at your selected facility. Moreover, in case you have to see a specialist, they’ll also be in the same hospital system.

Hospitals often use electronic record systems, and having access to all of the patient’s medical records can promote continuity, improve communication between multiple providers, and lower healthcare costs.

Ideally, you should select a physician you can trust and based on their ability to offer evidence-based and high-quality care.
