#1 – Peach Varieties

Before we get to the ways to pick them, let’s talk about the hundreds of varieties of peaches. According to the production field inspector at Whole Foods Market, Katie Green, there is not just one type of peaches and the differences are visible when you notice the texture and color.

The most common ones are yellow and white. These yellow ones are more acidic with a complex flavor, while the white ones are milder in flavor. But regardless of the differences, the rules to pick them are still the same!

#2 – The color

Before you do anything, check out the peach’s color because it is what indicates maturity! Apart from the little green that shows on the peach’s shoulders, the whole fruit should have a consistent blush color.

Same goes for the yellow and white peaches. Just make sure the color is right and there is no strange one creeping into the fruit.

#3 – Light speckling

While picking the right peach, you may find ones with light speckling on their skin, and that’s a good thing. According to Green, those peaches actually have a higher sugar content, which means your peach will be sweeter and more delicious.
