Since a very early age, we have been taught the importance of washing our teeth after meals and before sleep, but are we truly aware of how important that is? Or we are only doing it for the sake of maintaining clean, healthy teeth and a beautiful smile?
The truth is, if you didn’t take good care of your oral hygiene, then not only your gums will be unhealthy or teeth will be yellow, but your overall health will be affected, too. This is why your teeth can indicate so many things about your health…
Our bodies are known to send specific signs whenever something within us needs more attention, which is why you need to always keep a close eye on your body, including your pearly whites.
If you ever noticed something abnormal in your mouth, then you should start taking care of your insides a little more or to visit a dentist for better diagnose.
#1 – Bleeding, inflamed gums
If you have been suffering from swollen, bleeding gums, then there is a good chance you are diabetic because anyone with poorly controlled diabetes is more at risk of developing a form of gum disease.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, those who have diabetes are two times more likely to suffer from gum diseases than those who don’t have diabetes.
The reason is people dealing with diabetes are more likely to have bacterial infections and a lot less resistant to germs that usually target the gums. Also, diabetes prevents quick recovery from any oral surgery or any other dental procedures.
#2 – Disintegrating teeth
Usually, age is one of the reasons your teeth will start wearing down which can result in reduced enamel, but not all disintegrating teeth are a part of the aging process. Sometimes, the teeth would crack because we are dealing with acid reflux or Gastroesophageal reflux disease.
