2. Exercise, Exercise, and More Exercise!
It is never too much to insist on this point because physical exercise is good for everyone and everything, especially for people suffering from depression, among other diseases or health problems. Regular exercise, namely aerobic exercise, will cause your body to produce chemical substances (endorphins) that contribute to a greater mood, reducing stress hormones. And sometimes, that is enough to take care of your mental health. A walk a day is a great morning workout for those suffering from depression. But if you like playing tennis, playing football, gardening, among other types of activities, you should do it. The most important thing is to always be on the move, especially doing something you like.
3. Have a Great Night’s Sleep
Who can be well when they sleep poorly? No one. Everyone needs to have a good night’s sleep (between 7 to 9 hours of uninterrupted sleep) for the body to rest properly and be in great condition the next day. And you are no exception, especially if you are in depression treatment. As a rule, you, as a depressed person, already feel unwell and down. Can you imagine having a bad night’s sleep over this state? For that not to happen, you must follow a set of unique rules, such as: Go to bed and rest at the same time every day. Do exactly the same thing when you get up: every day at the same time. Do not nap in any corner of the house and during the day. Remove all electronic devices from the room to rest without distractions. Don’t go to bed on an empty stomach; drinking a cup of tea or a glass of warm milk works wonders for your rest. Over time, you will be able to have a great night of rest, and that will be crucial for you to know how to cope with depression.
4. Maintain High Levels of Folic Acid in the Body
Folic acid, also known as vitamin B9, is an extremely important nutrient for the functioning of the body, as it helps to treat your brain health, preventing problems such as depression. Besides, it strengthens the immune system, prevents anemia, cancers, and other types of health problems. Usually, people who suffer from depression and take antidepressant drugs have low levels of folic acid in the body, among other antidepressant side effects. Therefore, you should start eating more healthy food: vegetables, such as spinach, asparagus, and broccoli, among other green vegetables; fruits such as orange and mango and all kinds of grains to increase the levels of folic acid in the body. These foods are rich in folic acid, and this will be an important reinforcement for your poor health.
