Do You Really Need a Water Filter to Stay Safe?

You need to know that not every system is able to eliminate all contaminants. This means that, if you’re concerned about a specific contaminant, such as radon or bacteria, you should eventually get the water filter system that works best at eliminating that exact contaminant from your water supply in your home.

A water purification system can be either point of use POU or point of entry POE.
POU means that the system filters the water at the specific faucet it’s attached to, while POE is in which the water supply is filtered on its way to your home so that you have purified water at all faucets.

The system may include a piece of material that traps contaminants, such as microbes and chemicals, in the water. It might also eliminate or destroy contaminants in another way.

Water Softeners. A water softener corrects water ‘hardness’ by using an exchange system. Tap water contains magnesium and calcium, which are responsible for making the water very hard. How does it soften the water? This type of water filters uses potassium or sodium ions to replace the magnesium and calcium ions, making the water softer.

Aerators. These water filter tools use jets of air to eliminate some chemicals, such as radon, as well as chemical components of gasoline.

Adsorptive Media or Water Filtration. These two filtering systems are often carbon-based. They trap both liquids and solids in the filter’s material.

Distillers. These devices use boiling to destroy the contaminant-containing water vapor from the drinking water. This water filtration method eliminates many of the naturally-occurring minerals in water but might change the taste of water.

Reverse Osmosis Units. These ones filter water via a membrane, using the pressure that removes microbes and chemicals. Although these filter systems use plenty of water, they do get rid of all microbes that cause disease as well as so many chemicals. This is regarded as a very effective system for purifying water.
