5 Deadly Things You Should Never Do During a Seizure!

There are different types of seizures that could happen to a person, and should one occur to someone you know or if you happen to be near someone who is having a seizure, there are certain things that you should never do.

In this article, we are not going to deal with seizure medication or seizure symptoms. Rather, we will take the opportunity to inform you about certain things that you should avoid doing in case you find yourself in a situation calling upon you to help someone with a seizure.

Whatever the type of the seizure disorder—be it an epileptic seizure, a non-epileptic seizure, a pseudo seizure, or a tonic seizure—there are certain measures that you should not take, so as not to make matters worse for the person having the seizure.

1. Don’t Restrain Movement

Of course, you should take measures to protect the person from having a seizure from getting injured; however, you should at no cost restrain that person’s movement. Whether it is a strong seizure or a mild epileptic seizure, you should make sure that you let the person move freely, provided that you put him or her in a place that will not cause them any injuries. As soon as you notice signs of a seizure, make sure that you hold them gently and have them go through it until the fit passes through.

2. Don’t Put Anything in the Mouth

Another thing that you should avoid at all costs, and which many people seem to think could help the patient, is putting something in the mouth of a person having an epileptic seizure, for example. You should know that doing this is considered wrong! Knowing what to do when a person has a seizure involves making sure that you resist the impulse of putting something in his or her mouth because that will not help at all. In fact, it could do more harm than good, and you do not want to be responsible for endangering the wellbeing of someone.

3. Don’t Move the Person

Another thing that you should avoid doing when you encounter a person having a seizure is moving them. The only case in which you are allowed to move the person having a seizure is the case in which they could be in danger. Instead, stay close to them and keep thinking of a seizure treatment, such as anti-seizure medication or other common seizure medications, such as epileptic seizure medication.

4. Don’t Just Give Food

If you know what a seizure is, you can even recognize types of seizures in adults. Moreover, you are knowledgeable about how to deal with a person having a seizure. However, do you know what to do after the seizure ends and the person tries to recover? Well, one thing that you should never do is giving someone who has just undergone a seizure food or something to drink. Make sure that you wait until the person fully recovers before you introduce him or her to anything to eat or drink. Going about matters this way ensures that they remain safe and not develop any complications.

5. Don’t Bring Them to Consciousness

You should always let things run their course during a seizure without interfering much. This involves avoiding bringing the person having an epileptic seizure, for example, into consciousness. Instead, keep him or her safe and keep observing, all the while preparing some anti-seizure meds—the best seizure medication you can find (mostly the ones prescribed by the doctor). Remember: do not attempt to bring the person having a seizure into consciousness, because you will be doing more harm than good. Allow them to go through it as naturally as possible, and then help them recover from it and work towards avoiding it
Signs of seizures in adults will always manifest themselves quite clearly, meaning that you have to remain vigilant if you know that someone close to you is liable to such seizures. Also, make sure that you keep an eye on them at night, because sleep seizures are common as well. And make sure that you stay well-stocked on anti-seizure medicine.
