Usually, we treat ourselves and children with sugary and salty junk foods, and the worst part is that they may associate this type of foods with a feeling of praise and approval.

When your children perceive unhealthy foods as rewards, they will become more attractive toward them and think even less of healthy foods. Foods rewarding is not a healthy practice for you as well; especially if you are following a weight loss diet.

Instead of rewarding your children with Mars bars and greasy foods, think about playing nutrition games for kids where the rewards are delicious but healthy foods.

The best weight loss plans invariably stress on restricting yourself on unhealthy foods. Therefore, you are not allowed to get second helpings or desert. However, while you are a mature person who can suck it up, your children may have more desire for junk foods if you restrict them completely.

Surely, you restrict your children out of good intentions: you want them to focus more on healthy foods and have wholesome meals; however, too much monitoring of your kids eating habits and too many restrictions and rules can have counter effects and actually lead them to opt for “snacky” ways to get their treats.

The complete monitoring of your children’s foods may also harm them emotionally, and lead them to think that they have done something wrong by having too much food; which puts them at risk of having mental turmoil.

Even worst, you kids may look for these snacks elsewhere without your knowledge, giving themselves the freedom to have as much as they want. Therefore, try to find a balance between monitoring and freedom.
