However, if you have this habit and have lately noticed that your weekday lunches are bringing you down and decreasing from your own productivity, it’s time to switch them up for healthier and more nourishing alternatives.
#1 – Pasta
Pasta is almost everyone’s favorite food especially when bechamel sauce, cream, or any other heavy sauce with fatty cheese is added. Let’s admit it! People can hardly resist it! It’s tasty, creamy, and cheesy, just the best combination!
However, what most people might not know is that the white flour noodles can easily turn into sugar and the body will store all of it as fat. Eventually, this will result in weight gain and clogged arteries!
#2 – Salad
This might be really surprising but yes darling you’ve read it right! Iceberg Lettuce is not as healthy as you think. In fact, it doesn’t contain many nutrients except water and a bit of fiber. So, eating it for lunch will make you feel hungry in a couple of hours.
In addition, if you top it with high fat or high-calorie dressing, be prepared to snack more during the day and eventually gain some extra pounds.
However, you can keep your salad for lunch but add some nuts, avocados, and some quality protein. Also, don’t forget to sprinkle on low-fat vinegar dressing.
#3 – Fast Food
Fast food seems to be the most affordable meal that you can easily grab during a short lunch break! The cheesy burger, the french fries, and the soda seem like the perfect lunch you need but the truth: it’s not!
In fact, this meal is filled with nasty additives, fat, salt, and sugar. Also, the fat red meat will make you feel sluggish. Again adding fried carbs and sweetened drink to this unhealthy meal will make your after-lunch experience miserable
#4 – Soups
Whether you opt for a broth-based soup or cream based one, they are both high in calories and low in protein. Hence, they will make you feel hungry a few hours after taking your lunch! And if you get canned soups, then, you should know that they are hard on your body as they are high in salt and preservatives.
#5 – Some Fruit
Fruits are healthy foods that are highly packed with essential vitamins and vital nutrients. However, not all of them are good to eat, especially, for lunch! Bananas and cherries, for instance, are better avoided!
It’s true that bananas are high in magnesium and contain tryptophan but they should be better saved as an after-dinner snack! And in case you choose to take them for lunch, you might end up with a serious issue such as tooth decay, especially if you don’t brush your teeth after consuming them!
Cherries, on the other hand, are a big No. These healthy fruits are actually effective at helping you sleep and relax that’s why we find most doctors advising their patients with chronic insomnia to drink a cup of tart cherry juice twice a day.
#6 – Sandwiches
Well, normally sandwiches come in two varieties, say, PBJ or deli meat. But guess what? None of them is a good and healthy choice for lunch and that’s because the white bread is full of white flour and preservatives, which are definitely not healthy for your body and for weight loss.
So, if you don’t wanna gain some unnecessary weight, you’d better replace sandwiches with a healthier alternative.
#7 – Pizza
No one can deny that pizza is such a quick yummy meal but still, it’s definitely not what you want to allow in your stomach. Pizza contains white flour crust, lots of high-fat cheese, sugar-laden sauce, lots of high-fat cheese, and more!
That’s not everything as having Pizza for lunch will make you feel sluggish and tired for the rest of the day and help you to gain some unnecessary extra pounds.
#8 – Cheese And Crackers
If you think that cheese and crackers are a good choice for lunch, then, you will certainly change your mind! In fact, the white flour and fiber crackers won’t help you stay full for long as they will encourage you to snack more.
In addition, even the cheese topping is bad for you! However, if you can’t do without them, you can at least opt for high-fiber crackers and add some healthy avocados, nuts, and healthy protein such as tuna.
#9 – Burrito
Burritos are not only yummy, soothing, flavorful, and filling, but they are also fattening and full of sodium. And eating them for lunch will make you feel sluggish and tired for the rest of the day and eventually you will lose concentration and you won’t be able to work properly.
#10 – Sweet Treats
If you have a sweet tooth and the habit to eat sweet treats for lunch, it’s time to stop this unhealthy habit! It’s true that it seems like the perfect quick meal but definitely not the healthiest choice.
Sugar can only provide you with a quick energy burst and then leave you tired and cranky for the rest of the day and that’s in addition to the extra calories that will be transformed and stored in your body as fat.
