Staying hydrated during the day and while working out is the most important thing, so we all tend to keep a bottle with us at all times, and since it contains only water, we think that it is clean and it can’t get that dirty, right?

Well, we are all wrong. Water bottles can contain more germs than you can ever expect, regardless if it was made from plastic, stainless steel, or any other hard material, and that’s because it is a “moist” environment where bacteria tend to breed the most, which will lead to diarrhea, vomiting, and nausea.

So before you fill up your water bottle again, make sure to clean it up very well and here are 5 of the greatest ways to do so.

Before you start washing your water bottle with the dishwasher, make sure to check if it is “dishwasher safe”.

So first, place it in the top rack, then turn on the dishwasher with the hottest water it has and a heated dry cycle. The hot temperature will definitely destroy all the bacteria and create a cleaner environment where they could never breed.

Washing the water bottle the old school way is still an effective method. You just need to wash the water bottle well from the inside out, the same way you do to wash a used mug or glass and make sure to get all the parts, including the building parts at the bottom.

You can now rinse it with warm water and dry it up with a clean cloth or a paper towel to prevent any reintroducing of any germs or harmful bacteria.

#3 – Vinegar

The bottle of vinegar you have in your fridge can be used for many things other than your salad. It is actually a great weapon against bacteria so it kills most of them, and it can be your drying agent, too.
